Army Public School Dagshai
Army Public School (APS) is a boarding school located in Dagshai, India. It lies on top of the Dagshai Hills. General K Sunderji and General R. S. Dayal established this school in 1986 under HQ Western Command. It is a coeducational residential School affiliated to the CBSE, New Delhi, and is a member of the Indian Public Schools’ Conference. The school is ranked 9thamong top boarding schools in India. The name Dagshai, according to a popular local legend was derived from Daag-e-Shahi. During the Mogul times a Daag-e-Shahi (royal mark) was put on the forehead of the criminals and sent packing to the then Dagshai village. This can also be seen on a rock edict in the school premises. The closest railway station is Kumarhatti located some 2 kilometers from Dagshai. Trains from and to Kalka operate on this track between Kalka and Shimla.

History
The first batch of schools had 78 boys and 11 girls. Here new students are admitted from classes 5th-12th grade on the basis of a written examination held all over India in Army schools. The school prepares the students of Class X for the All India Secondary School Examination and those of Class XII for the All India Senior Secondary School Examination.
ADMISSION
Admission is on the basis of a written entrance test taken on the Second Sunday of February at various centers. No child can appear in the test unless he/she has been registered.
The last date for registration for admission to classes, VI, VII, VIII, and IX is 31 Dec and for class XI is 10 March.
The School prospectus with the application form for registration and the set of sample question papers can be obtained by sending Rs. 550/- by Bank Demand Draft payable at Dagshai or Solan. the junior class in the school is class V. The school is run primarily for the children of serving Army Personnel at subsidized expenditure. Some seats are offered to the children of war widows and ex-servicemen also. All other categories are treated as civilians.
The syllabi provided in the school prospectus are for admission to classes V and VI because our normal entry points are classes V and VI and above, it depends upon the chance vacancies arise due to drawls, etc at the time of admission. Admission to these classes is done on the basis of performance in the Entrance Test.

a) Transfer Certificate in Original (should be countersigned by an appropriate authority (Distt. Education Officer) except for Army Public School/KVs).
b) Progress Report of the last School attended along with character certificate.
c) Defence Personnel Serving Certificate, if applicable.
d) Dependant Certificate in respect of the children of Army Personnel.
e) Complete health information on a form supplied by the School (Medical History Form).
f) Indemnity Bond on the form supplied by the School.
g) Eight passport-size photographs.
h) Identity Card No. of Defence Personnel.
i) Zilla Sainik Board Ex-serviceman Certificate (having the proof of the ward).
j) Photocopy of Pension Pay Order(PPO) or Pension Book of Ex-servicemen.
k) Medical Dependant Card.
